nyammanna: Soto Betawi Karebosi

Okay, in Makassar there are a couple of soups that are local favorites..... Of course the most famous ones are Coto Makassar and Sop Konro (Beef Ribs Soup), but there are few the lesser known (and outrageously named) soups such as Sop Saudara and Sop Lidah.

Soto Betawi with Nasi Sambal Goreng

But today this is actually originated not from Makassar but from Betawi (old name for Jakarta). From what I heard even in Jakarta they don't sell the ones like in Makassar. Anyhow, Soto Betawi is one of my favourite soup dish in Makassar. One of those foods that I have since I was a child...... Originally they sell around Karebosi area. Hence the name is Soto Betawi Karebosi. Nowadays, they have around 3 branches (in Bau Massepe, Veteran Selatan and recently open near Post Office).

I have a tendency to prefer the one in Gunung Lompobattang branch but these days they tend to close most of the time. And when I asked them, they said they are short of staffs so they "merge" with the one in Veteran Selatan.

The Soto Betawi itself is actually a clear beef soup with "scrambled eggs" in it. The eggs are actually its signature. The branch that I visited this time is the one in Bau Massepe. They actually charged you if you ask for more "fried red onion" (bawang goreng) which is usually free when you have Coto or Sop Lidah or Sop Saudara, so boo!! on that.

I honestly think compare with Coto, I would prefer Coto broth since Coto broth has its own flavour even if you don't add sweet soy sauce and chili oil.

Also the thing that makes Soto Betawi special is the rice comes with its "sambal goreng" (additional charged too). I love their sambal goreng, the sambal goreng is not the crispy and hard and overly sweet type. Instead, the sambal goreng is more soft and less sweet.

If you are bored with Coto or Sop Konro, I recommend you to try Soto Betawi as one of your options in your culinary travel in Makassar.

My saying for this particular food stall is......... 4/5

Mie Ayam Saos Mentega

Let's cut to the chase.... this is a food stall that is very near to my shop. Having said that, I know this place one of my friends status on his BBM (Blackberry Messenger) that said that he just had the best "Ayam Saos Mentega". Curiosity antenna went up... then I asked him where is this place.... he told me the address and went to try.... and yes indeed..... it was the best Mie Ayam Saos Mentega I have ever tried.... (okay to be honest top two with "Ayam Goreng TT" (Boneless Chicken) at Penghibur Food Stalls (which I will post its review soon))

This food stall offers very limited menu but it's worth the mention because it's famous for its one and only dish...... which is Mie Ayam Goreng Saos Mentega. (The dish can be ordered as a stand alone or with noodles or rice, the one I tried is the one with noodles)

The chicken is the star if the dish. The noodles are so-so. The side soup is bland and almost tasteless (which usually most of the noodles food stalls overlook).

Also the foods that worth to also be mentioned is the BBQ chicken (Ayam BBQ)

My saying for this particular small food stall is...... 2.5/5

nyammanna: Kios Pasar Ikan (Kok Pau)

I'm very excited with this next review. Why? Because.... it's an old time favorite for my family and a "sort-of luxury" place for me when I was a kid. The reason is aside from its food that's legend...wait for it.... dary..... delicious also because it's super pricey for a plate of noodles. It's none other than.... Kios Pasar Ikan or more well known as Kok Pau.

Mie Goreng Hokkian (Hokkien Style Fried Noodles)
Kok Pau is a unique eatery because from the outside people usually don't realize that it's actually an eatery. Nevertheless this eatery is very well known for Chinese Indonesian family in Makassar. This place is usually packed with families especially on weekend night where everybody has their own plate of noodles. The signature dish for this eatery is its Mie Goreng Hokkian (Hokkien Style Fried Noodles). The X-factor for this dish is that it has a very homey flavor in its noodles. (kind of hard to explain). But I recently noted that they have discarded the sort of like"bakhem" piece in their noodles. (boohoo! because I always think that that's the plus point for the noodles). The noodles are very "nyamman" or delicious and uniquely for this eatery. A really must try if you are in Makassar.

Ayam Goreng TT (Boneless Fried Chicken)
Last but certainly not the least, I greatly recommend you to try its (also) signature dish is Ayam Goreng Tanpa Tulang (TT) or Boneless Fried Chicken. Wah! So yummy. Although many other eateries have this kind of dish but this dish in this place is different because it's not as "hard" as the other place but yet still crisps. Also, I noticed because they use the thigh part of the chicken all with the skin still attached then fry them. A perfect combination for the Mie Goreng Hokkian.

All in all, I have always enjoy to have dinner here. The only thing that always hinders me to do it more often is the high price for a simple noodles which cost Rp.40,000.- a plate (while on average other Chao Mien costs around Rp.30,000.-).

My saying for this particular food stall is.........
Mie Goreng Hokkian 4.5/5
Ayam Goreng TT 4.5/5
Overall 4.5/5
