It has been a while i always want to make a food blog that shares my experience in wonderful food in my life. So I took a deep breath and started this blog. Here we go! 

Nasi Goreng Merah (Red Fried Rice)

If Singaporean or Medannese are proud of their Char Kwe Tiau, we Makassar-nese have our Chao Mien and Chao Fang (Fried Noodles and Fried Rice). A little backstory and introduction, in Makassar the common types of Chao Mien or fried noodles are Mie Goreng Kering (Dry fried noodles), Mie Goreng Kantong (Cantonese style fried noodles), Mie Goreng Hokkian (Hokkien style fried noodles) and bee hun varieties. And for fried rice or Chao Fang are Nasi Goreng Makassar a.k.a Nasi Goreng Merah (Makassar style fried rice), Nasi Goreng Yancou a.k.a Nasi Goreng Putih (White fried rice) and Nasi Goreng Jakarta a.k.a Nasi Goreng Kecap (Jakarta Style fried rice).

Kios Hong Lek is now run by the second generation of the family. The food stalls are famous for its siu may (Siomay) and also for their fried noodles and fried rice even for the locals (who usually don't eat at this kind of stalls).

Mie Goreng Kering/Kantong

Kios Hong Lek is not particularly my family favorite place to have Chao Mien or Chao Fang. So, that's a bad sign. The Chao Mien or Chao Fang here lacks the x-factor that really makes you salivating and keeps you eating the huge portion of chao mien and chao fang in Makassar.

Fu Yung Hai

One thing that can save the evening is the siu may (you can order the steam one or fried one). I like the fried ones. The siumays here have pieces of bangkuang (jicama/mexican yam) in them which make them has that "crunchy" texture when you bite them. Super delicious!
